UNDP has operated in Cambodia for more than 50 years, establishing formal offices in Phnom Penh in 1994. The renovation of their current base involved transforming a 1960s villa in the centre of the capital into a contemporary office block. The clean, white aesthetic of the workspace echoes the much-respected development ethos of the United Nations, while Khmer motifs, including a bas-relief adorned with Apsara dancers and tiles with local patterns, protects the distinct Cambodian feel of this historical building. The existing structure is preserved and a small extension boosts the size of the lobby and reception area.
